Halls Gap Residence, or as we like to call it, A Home Among the Gumtrees, is a work set within the geographical context of Halls Gap, Victoria, Australia.
A key feature of this project is that there are no hierarchical preferences to everyday functions; therefore all spaces, volumes and elevations are treated equally.
Internally, the home as arranged around a ‘cruciform post’ which defines four spaces. These spaces serve the necessary domestic functions of bathing, eating, resting, and thinking. The ‘cruciform post’ is a partially accessible space and includes a sanitary compartment. The shower is deliberately located at the centre of the home.
